Multimodal Project
"Select an assignment that reveals your ability to develop and sustain an argument"
This multi-modal essay was the final project of the fall semester, and it is the one I most enjoyed composing. To begin with, students were required to select a specific piece of artwork that resonated with them. In writing about this artwork, we were expected to provide a thesis arguing the purpose and significance of the artwork, give brief background info on it, interpret and analyse its meaning, provide critical reviews on it, and finally, provide responses to the artwork using a series of our own photographs.

I decided to analyse a song called 'Stop This Train' by American songwriter John Mayer. In my essay, I argue that this song confronts the concept of time in a very fascinating way: it encourages us to embrace our mortality and allow it to motivate us to be more mindful of the way we spend our time.
By providing a clear-cut thesis and drawing detailed evidence from several different sources in order to support my argument about temporal control, I think I crafted a piece which reveals my ability to develop and sustain an argument. The multi-modal nature of this assignment opened several different avenues through which I could creatively support my thesis.
